| COURSE INFO | |
Courses take place at my workshop in Nieperfitz, a small village in the heart of the Göhrde forest, about 40 km east of Lüneburg. Tools and materials are provided. The maximum number of participants is 5, so I can give enough individual tuition to make the course as interesting for those who have previous experience of working with wood as it is for beginners. The courses are all weekend courses except for the chairmaking course (one week). They all run daily from 10am to 6pm. Teas, coffees and a simple lunch (soup and bread) are included. We appreciate contributions e.g. fruit, cheese etc. to share. We do not offer accommodation but there are many good value bed and breakfast places nearby, see list. I can cover special topics by prior arrangement if you have a particular request, such as design development, chair-making techniques, steam-bending, or the history, use and care of tools. If you arrange it with me in advance it is possible to make a shaving horse or a pole-lathe on one of the greenwoodworking course weekends. |

| GREENWOOD WORK AND POLE-LATHE TURNING | |
This course offers a good grounding in working with froe, side-axe, shaving horse and pole-lathe. Make spoons or tool handles, childrens toys or candlesticks or a three-legged stool. Those with a bit of turning experience could try turning cups or bowls. |
| BUILD YOUR OWN SHAVING HORSE | |
Make your own English-style shaving horse using green wood and hand tools. |
| BUILD YOUR OWN POLE-LATHE | |
Make your own pole-lathe and get an introduction into how to use it. |
| ADZE WORK | |
| Discover what you can do with an adze, one of the oldest woodworking tools: learn about types of adze, the fine tuning of the handle and blade and how to adze joints, beams, finials, surfaces, dough-troughs, chair seats and gutters. Work with 9 different adzes from the last 10 centuries. |
| TOOL SHARPENING | |
| All aspects of sharpening hand tools. Run with co-tutor Hannes Schnelle. Hannes is a cabinet maker who has learnt sharpening the hard way: while working with a Japanese Master Temple Builder in Japan for a year. Hone your skills (and tool edges) with him and reach perfection in the art. |
